How to Remain Professional on Twitter

October 12th, 2011 by admin

Twitter is, at its very root, a public forum. By utilizing Twitter correctly you can cleverly market your business, enhance your social life, or break into a new industry. Unfortunately, there are many people out there who do not understand this and they can end up bringing down their business, or destructing their personal relationships, with the whole world watching.

The first thing you should know about the internet is that nothing is ever really gone. One slip up can be your detriment. As seen lately in the news recently, by a certain public figure scandal and then political resignation, a misplaced photo can be your downfall. Deleting something from the internet does not mean that it is gone! There will be servers out there that will retain that information long after you pull it off a site.

What you should always think of when posting to Twitter is if this is something you would want your boss or potential customers seeing. Even if it is your own personal account if it is public then someone you have professional dealings with may eventually see it. Though you could make your personal account locked for friends only, you are better off keeping your Tweets professional at all times.
